It’s Okay To Give Up On Your Dreams

It’s okay to give up on your dreams.

Sometimes your dreams are not working out the way you planned.

Sometimes your dream turns out nothing like you expected. Sometimes your life changes and your dreams change too. Thats okay.

“Giving Up” is a term usually associated with shame, guilt, even laziness. It shouldn’t be.

Lives change. New people enter, others leave, we love and we lose, we succeed and we fail. Rarely, will a dream survive all that and remain the same.

Giving up on your old dreams is really just giving up on shit that was meant to make you happy, but isn’t.

I met with a friend in my community today who has just been through some big things in his life. He was closing up shop on his business after 5 years and I asked him about it, happy for him. It was a cool business and I know he was passionate about it once, but I also knew he was sure about his decision.

Still, when I asked, I could hear him hold back with the concern that to someone on the outside, it might seem like he’s just “giving up” and that’s a bad thing.

I won’t be suprised if one day he looks back on this as one of the best decisions he ever made. He’s moving on. To family, to freedom, to happiness, to enjoying his life. The business wasn’t doing what it was supposed to – it wasn’t bringing freedom, it was tiring him, it was taking him away from his family. He made the bold and best choice.

No matter how much hard work, passion, time you have put into a project, job, person, anything – if it no longer brings you the happiness and fulfillment it was supposed to – it’s okay to give up on it. It might be the hardest decision you ever make, but it might be the best decision you ever make too.

The most successful people have given up on many things in their life. They move on from failed businesses, wrong careers, unhappy relationships and friendships that do not add value to their lives.

Today – take a look at your priorities. What takes the most time, but you enjoy the least? Why do you continue to do that thing?

Make sure that reason isn’t just your own mind. Expectations, guilt, shame or insecurity that stop you from letting go.

I set you the challenge to “give up” on something shitty this week. Life is short, we dont have time. Good luck 😉
